Summary

It is possible to consult a list of students in StudyCoach. You can use this list efficiently to quickly find the right students.

Value

If you want to get an overview of a student's overall (online) learning behavior in Canvas, you would have to look for the data in all the individual Canvas courses of this student. This takes an awful lot of time and you may not have access to this data in Canvas as a coach, department coach or manager. Whereas in Canvas the courses are centralized, in StudyCoach the students are centralized in the student list. In the student list, you can view the trend of a student's learning behavior from different roles at a glance, among other things.

The student list in a nutshell

Teachers, coaches, department coaches and managers can access a student list in StudyCoach. Which students a user with a certain role sees in the student list can be read in the article 'Roles'. The student list appears in multiple places within StudyCoach such as within a landing page or in a course overview.

In the current article, the manager's perspective has been used to give the most complete picture of the functionalities within the student list. It may be that for your role or within your institution, certain functionalities are not visible or are not used.

The image below of a student list on the landing page from the manager's perspective serves as a capstone working efficiently with the student list

Working efficiently with the student list

  1. The logo
Click on the (StudyCoach) logo to always be able to navigate back to your landing page in StudyCoach. For example, when you are in StudyCoach in a course overview of a specific student, you can go directly back to your landing page via the logo.

Would you like to replace the StudyCoach logo with your own image? Then take a look at the article

    'General settings'.

  2. Terms
In the student list, you can filter by terms. When you filter on a term, the students who are registered for the courses that fall within this term will appear.

Are you a manager and want to know more about terms? Check out the article

     'Canvas data synchronization'.

  3. Accounts
In the student list, you can filter by accounts. When you filter on an account, the students who are registered for the courses that are structured within this account will appear.

    'Canvas data synchronization'.

To quickly look up a user or course, you can type the name of the user or course at the search icon. For example, you can immediately find the student you are looking for in the student list.

  5. Notifications
As soon as a note is shared with other users, all those involved receive a notification. The number of new or unread notifications is visible as a number in the blue badge on the bell icon.  Read more about this in the article 'Notifications'.

  6. Settings
The manager can navigate to the settings menu via the landing page. Here, the manager can control what is visible within the student list for which roles within a particular (sub-)account. For example, the manager can arrange that the behavioral indicator 'Attendance' is not shown within the student lists of coaches within the sub-account 'Fashion'.

Are you a manager and want to know which data you want to make visible to which roles on the student lists? Then check out the article 'Canvas data synchronization' and the article 'Permissions'.

  7. Filtering on labels
To quickly find all students to whom a specific label has been assigned, select the specific rimmed label at the top of the page. This label is then filled with color and the students to whom the specific label has been assigned appear in the student list. It is possible to select multiple labels.

Want to know more? Take a look at the article 'Labels'.

  8. Filter on the trend of behavioral indicators
To filter students with a specific trend of a particular behavioral indicator, you can click on the filter icon associated with this behavioral indicator. Filters on multiple behavioral indicators can be active at the same time.

When you click on the word of the behavioral indicator (for example, on the word "Page view"), the students will be sorted according to their trend indicator, but you will not highlight the students with a specific trend indicator. Want to know more? Then check out the article 'Behavioral indicators'.

  9. Filter on last login
The last login indicates when a student last entered the Canvas environment. Clicking on the word "Last login" will change the chronological order of the student list.

  12. Checkbox / Profile picture
The profile pictures from Canvas are displayed in the student list in StudyCoach. When you click on the checkbox for the profile picture of one or more students, it is possible to link labels, coaches and send messages to multiple students at once.
