Working with sub-goals

Modified on Tue, 27 Feb 2024 at 09:57 AM

Within Portflow, subgoals can represent dimensions or milestones of a larger learning goal or learning outcome. Sub-goals can be placed in multiple collections, to which evidence can be linked. They provide can help empower educators and students to (self) assess these multifaceted aspects of goals by breaking down overarching goals into specific, more measurable components.

Creating new sub-goals

Sub-goals can be created in 2 different ways:

  • At the 'progress' tab on the dashboard
  1. Click on the three dots next to the statistic summary on a goal, on the right hand side of the progress page.
  2. Select 'Add sub-goal'
  3. Fill in the details

  • On a goal card (opened by clicking the goal on the progress tab, the collection page, evidence page or linked feedback)
  1. Click on the three dots next to the title of the goal, at the top of the goal card
  2. Select 'Add sub-goal'
  3. Fill in the details

Link sub-goals to evidence

On a collection page, click the three dots next to a piece of evidence and select 'Link to (sub)goals'. A pop-up opens which provides the possibility to select goals which should be associated with the evidence. If the selected goal(s) have sub-goals, the dropdown menu can be used to also immediately link the sub-goals to the evidence.

On a goal card, click the three dots next to a piece of evidence and select 'Manage sub-goals'. A pop-up opens which provides the possibility to select sub-goals which should be associated with the evidence.

What information do I have about sub-goals?

On a collection page, you can see which evidences have been linked to subgoals with a label

On an evidence page, you can see which sub-goals are associated with that evidence

On the goal card, on the 'evidence' tab, you can see the evidences and linked sub-goals.
