Add a new user manually

If a person is already a user in StudyCoach you can continue to 'Add a new role to a user manually'. You can check if a person is a user already in StudyCoach, by simple searching the name of the user at the right upper corner in StudyCoach. When the person appears, the person is a user in StudyCoach already.

What to do if this person is not a user in StudyCoach yet? 

Adding users in StudyCoach can not be done from the StudyCoach interface yet, but can easily be achieved by following the next steps:

  1. The person should try to access StudyCoach by clicking on the StudyCoach element (with the magnifier) in the global navigation menu in Canvas. Then an error is shown to the user.
  2. The user is now created in StudyCoach and visible for you as a manager. Please read along to dive into the follow-up steps.

  Tip: Is this person not immediately reachable? Or do you as a manager need to create this user in StudyCoach quickly? Please feel free to use the 'act as' functionality in such a case. Follow the above steps in the name of this specific user.


Add a new role to a user manually

The student and teacher roles in StudyCoach are derived from Canvas and automatically created in StudyCoach. These roles cannot be changed or added in StudyCoach. However, the manager and (department) coach roles do not yet exist in Canvas. These roles are created in StudyCoach and thus added to users in StudyCoach.

Any manager can add roles to users by following the steps (as repeated in the video below):

  1. Search for the name of the user in the upper right corner of StudyCoach.
  2. Go to 'Roles' in the user profile and select 'Add role'.
  3. Select the appropriate role:
    1. If you want to add the role of a manager or department coach, select the (sub-)account. If you want to select more accounts to the user, repeat the steps above. 
    2. If you want to add the role coach, select the student this coach will be supervising. If you want to link multiple students to the coach, repeat the steps above. 
  4. Select 'Save'.


Delete or change a role of a user manually

Any manager can change or delete the roles of a user. This can be done by following the following steps:

  1. Search for the name of the user in the upper right corner of StudyCoach.
  2. Go to 'Roles' in the user profile and select 'Add role'. Do you want to edit a coach's role? Then first select 'Coach history' and then 'Add role'. 
  3. Select the new role.
  4. Select 'Save'.
  5. Delete the old role by clicking the cross-icon behind it.
