Where to find the grade pass back setting

For every survey that you add to the integration, you can pick how a submission will be shown and graded in Canvas. When you go to the survey settings of a survey (by clicking on the survey in the survey overview) you will find the setting 'Survey grading method' (1).

Grade pass back options

Qualtrics LTI currently supports four options:

  1. With Canvas submission > Grade is the assignment maximum score
The Qualtrics LTI will create a Canvas submission and the survey will be graded with the maximum score you set in a Canvas assignment.

You can use this option to display a checkmark when the student has submitted the survey. When you add an assignment simply set 'Display grade as' to 'Complete/incomplete'. This does require setting the assignment to at least 1 point.
  2. With Canvas submission > Grade is the percentage of the Qualtrics score
The Qualtrics LTI will create a Canvas submission. With this option, the score (how you configured the scoring in Qualtrics) of your Qualtrics survey is scaled to the assignment maximum score. We will first take the obtained Qualtrics score, divide that by the maximum Qualtrics score, and turn it into a percentage. Next, we will use this percentage to set the score for the Canvas assignment. When selecting this option you will be asked for the maximum scoring of the Qualtrics survey.

  3. With Canvas submission > Grade not registered
The Qualtrics LTI will create a Canvas submission. The survey will not have a grade, but a submission (see icon below) will be visible in the teacher view of the Canvas Gradebook.

This option can be especially useful in combination with the Speedgrader (see here for more information). The teacher can leave comments and give a grade or set it to completed manually if the submission meets the requirements.

  4.  No Canvas submission > Grade not registered
The Qualtrics LTI will not create a Canvas submission. The grade won’t be registered and no submission will be visible in the Canvas Gradebook. Therefore the teacher will be unable to see who has made a submission and who has not.

Survey submission

In this section you are able to  choose preferred submission type from three options:

Allow Multiple submissions > by choosing this option you will allow students to submit the survey multiple times. So the same student could submit the same survey 2 times and 2 different results will be registered.

Limit to 1 submission > the survey can be submitted only once.

Allow submission update > Students are able to upload the survey multiple times and to and only the latest submission will be registered.

After you chose on your submission type you are able to decide if you would like to accept submissions after the due date. This can be handy in order to give some more time for students (1). You are also able to showcase the submission in the Canvas SpeedGrader by enabling the button (2). Furthermore you can decide if you would like to show submission to student or not (3). We recommend to have in enabled, this way you can avoid confusion from the student side.

After everything is configured to your needs please do not forget to save by hitting the 'Save' button.
