Setup:

Adding domains and connecting to Qualtrics

When first using the Qualtrics LTI you will see the following screen. From here, you can directly start the set-up. Or you can use the main blue navigation button to navigate to 'Set-up'

On the set-up page, you'll find settings to add Qualtrics domains. We define a Qualtrics domain as the Qualtrics environment you use to build your surveys. You can also use the set-up page to view and edit Qualtrics domains you added previously or will add in the future.

Different Qualtrics domains can be connected to Different Canvas sub-accounts. This might for example come in handy if your institute has different faculties that each have their own Qualtrics domain.

You can add a new Qualtrics domain with this button.

Start out by filling in a name (1) for the Qualtric domain. You will then be asked to fill in the ‘Qualtrics data center ID (2)’, this is necessary to make the connection with Qualtrics. You can find the ID in the URL of your Qualtrics domain. It should look something like this: https://yourdomainid.qualtrics.com/

The third step is to fill in your Qualtrics Brand Admin token (3), this information can be found in your Qualtrics account under 'Account' > 'Settings' > 'Approved Integrations' > '+ New Access Token'

Next, you chose to enable personal surveys. When the option ‘Enable personal surveys (4)’ is enabled, teachers (or other Canvas users) are able to log in to their Qualtrics account and can add surveys from their own account for this specific Qualtrics domain. You can enter a support email address (5) where users can send their questions regarding the Qualtrics LTI.

If you enable personal surveys, It is also required to fill in the OAuth ID (6) and secret.
You can ask your Qualtrics brand admin to create an OAuth token for the Qualtrics LTI. The redirect URL of the token should be: https://qualtrics.drieam.com/qualtrics/oauth2/callback. Fill in the OAuth Client ID and OAuth Client Secret your Qualtrics brand admin gave you.

Edit a Qualtrics domain

If you want to make changes to an existing Qualtrics domain, you can do so by clicking on the pencil icon.

Connect to Qualtrics

After adding one or multiple Qualtrics domains, you are ready to connect a Qualtrics account to the Canvas account.

Be aware! You can connect to Qualtrics on the root account level and all sub-account levels. Please be mindful that you open and fill in the ‘Connect to Qualtrics’ screen in the right (sub-)account level. This will ensure the surveys related to that Qualtrics domain can be used in the courses belonging to that (sub-)account.

If you are located in the right account in Canvas, you can start connecting to Qualtrics. First, select the Qualtrics domain (1).

Secondly, enter the API token (2). You can find this information under your profile in your Qualtrics account in the tab Qualtrics IDs (3).

Settings
You can find the Qualtrics LTI settings via the main button in the survey overview page.

On the settings page, you'll first see a list of all the optional features. Here you can decide which feature(s) you wish to enable or disable. You can change these optional features at any point in time. You can also decide to add a support email address. This is the address where the users of your institute can reach out to if they have questions regarding the Qualtrics integration.

Permissions

Here you can organize the permissions regarding Canvas sub-accounts and sub-account administrators. You can select (or unselect) as many sub-accounts as you wish to give them access to the Qualtrics LTI.

Additionally, you decide which permissions the sub-account administrators in your Canvas environment should have.

Click on the button below to save your permissions settings after you are done.

Data fields

What are data fields? Qualtrics allows you to use user-specific data in your surveys. This data is called embedded data and can be used to personalize questions for participants or to analyze the survey data in a more meaningful way. You can, for example, use Canvas course names or teacher names in a survey.

On the ‘Data fields’ page, you can set-up data-fields that can be used across all sub-accounts and in each Canvas course. A full guide on how to set-up data fields can be found here

You can also edit (via the pencil icon) data fields on this page. Be aware that if these fields are already used in Qualtrics LTI surveys, this might have an effect on those surveys.

Labels

In Qualtrics LTI you can create labels that can be added to every survey. Labels can be useful for organizing and categorizing surveys. On the survey overview page, you can easily search for one or multiple surveys by filtering for specific labels.
The Label creator and manager can be accessed via the main button in the survey overview page.

For each label, you can add a name, description, and color. Labels can be edited or deleted at any time.
